Our Fish Stories/Recounts!

Today Miss Thorne brought some fish into Room 11. They are a mullet and a trevally. We painted it. We even got to gut it. Ewww yuck! By Oskah

Today Miss Thorne brought some fish into Room 11. One fish was called a mullet. Miss Thorne gutted a slimy fish. Kian touched the slimy gills. The scales were slippery and slimy. After, we painted the fish. My fish was a rainbow fish. At the end they all looked amazing.  By Kalan

One day there was a trevally and a mullet. They were swimming along and the next day Miss Thorne came fishing and she cut the fishies. They were chomping away at the rod. Suddenly the rod snapped. Miss Thorne dived and got the rod and ehe fish died. She ate the fish up. By Ryan

Once there was a mullet. It was bloody and slimy. One of the fins were spiny. The fish was scaly and slimy.  I got to touch the slimy fish guts.  The guts were all yucky. My favourite part was when Miss Thorne cut open the stomach. By Kian

Fish Dissecting and Printing Lesson

Today we examined a mullet and trevally fish. This involved dissecting a trevally - cutting it into pieces with the eye well prodded, intestines thoroughly explored, gills yanked open and mouth peered down....a fish truly appreciated. We also used them for fish printing with a variety of paint printing patterns emerging. The excitement and fascination on the children's part in seeing a real-life dead fish made it all worth it! The video below gives a window into our time of discovery.

During the last week of term 1, Room 11 learnt about ANZAC Day, created related artwork, examined historical uniforms and articles from the war and Miss Thorne played an excerpt of 'The Last Post' on a trumpet for Room 11.

Descriptive Writing Inspired by Story Spinners

Some of the words generated to incorporate - lazy, animal, train driver, night.

One day in the night, there was a monkey. It was a lazy one. He ate a lot of food. His job was a train driver. The first day he fell asleep and nearly smashed someone over. Then he jumped out of the train and said, "Are you alright? Do you want to hop on the train?" Then they zoomed away around the world.

One night a monkey was driving a train. It was a lazy monkey. He helped a friend. He fell asleep and ended at the wrong place. Then he woke up and he drove back.

Once there was a lazy lion. He sat around all day. In the night the lion went on a lazy animal train. He was going to Burger King. It was getting dark. Suddenly, the train stopped at the lazy animal's house. He helped the other animal be lazy, too. Then after that he went to Burger King. He ate chips and a burger, too. The end.

Selection of Descriptive Stories

Last Thursday Room 11 thought of some amazing adjectives together for a trout and then wrote descriptive, interesting stories. Here are a few of them.

One day there was a rainbow trout swimming as fast as a rocket and it was diving out and in the water. Then a shark came to eat the rainbow trout. However, the shark got sick!
By Stella and Mandy

Once upon a time there were two little fish called Kalan and Oskah. The colour of the fish was a rainbow one. The two fish saw a shark. So, they zoomed away, but the shark swallowed the two little fish up!
By Kalan and Oskah.

There's one thing I had to see. That is a scary fish, scary fish, scary fish swimming in the sea. He was swimming in the sea and his colour was black and it was green.
By Marvel and CG

Once upon a time we saw a trout. It was amazing and beautiful. I felt the trout. It was scaly  It's body is dotty. When he went home, he saw a gigantic worm. He ate it and he exploded!
By Kian

One morning a rainbow trout woke up in a shiny river. He was very spotty. Suddenly, he was getting pulled. He was shocked! There was a hook pulling him. Then he escaped by flicking off the hook. After that he saw a ginormous worm. It looked so scrumptious!
